This is a professional role providing advanced legal research and writing support within the Kent County Office of the Public Defender. This position is also responsible for evaluating and advising other attorneys on the potential immigration consequences of criminal matters to facilitate compliance with Padilla v. Kentucky. Those in this position will be expected to stay abreast of the latest developments in the law; conduct legal research; draft pretrial motions and memoranda; and assist trial attorneys during motions, hearings, and trials. Research and Writing Attorney will occasionally directly interact with clients. Work is performed under general supervision.

Required Education, Training and Experience:
Must be a member in good standing of the State Bar of Michigan and eligible to practice before Michigan and Federal Courts, and/or the capability of becoming licensed to practice law in the State of Michigan within six months of hire. Must possess and maintain a valid Michigan Driver’s License.
